Firepit 101

Ah, summer. If you are like me, there’s nothing more enjoyable than sitting outside on a summer’s night around the firepit with family and friends and a refreshing drink.

If you are considering adding a fire pit to your backyard, there are several types to choose from.

How often you should change the air filter will depend on a number of factors:

Wood-burning:
The most versatile style because you can cook on it as well, and you can get a wood-burning fire pit in a wide range of styles and price points, DIY. Consider the size of your yard, however. Not suitable for porch or balcony or anyplace too close to your house.

Propane:
Nice cozy, little flame, usually as part of a coffee table, these are great for entertaining. Great to sit around with a drink. Perfect for patios. Not suitable for cooking, though, so less versatile than wood.

Natural gas:
Great for indoors, but must have a natural gas hookup and not moveable.

Gel fuel:
Versatile, easy to make, tabletop size. Good for roasting a few marshmallows on, indoors or out.
